Aeroporturile Internaţionale Otopeni şi Băneasa au anulat, vineri, la prima oră, 24 de curse, din care 22 pe Otopeni şi două pe Băneasa, din cauza închiderii traficului aerian în multe ţări din Nord - Vestul Europei, ca urmare a norului de cenuşă format după erupţia vulcanică din Islanda, a declarat vineri, pentru Agerpres, purtătorul de cuvânt al Companiei Aeroporturilor Bucureşti, Valentin Iordache.

"Au fost anulate 22 de curse de pe aeroportul Otopeni şi două curse de pe aeroportul din Băneasa, ale companiei Wizz Air, spre Londra, iar ieri au fost anulate în total între 10 şi 12 zboruri", a precizat Valentin Iordache

The eruption caused a 3.7 mile high plume of ash, which has wrecked havoc on flights across the Europe and around the world. The ash has the ability to knock out jet engines, an inconvenient fact that has grounded tens of thousands of passengers. Additionally, there is no telling when the ash will disperse. It could take days before the sky clears up.

In the meantime, though, there are photos to see. Many photographers have captured stunning images of the ash's effects on sunsets in Europe. As one commenter notes, the ash has resulted in a "fantastic spectacle."
