This is the PBS Masterpiece Theater production of Daniel DeFoe's 1722 novel set in England. It is very well produced with authentic sets and costumes of the period. It shows how the people lived in that era and the hardships that befell the poor people having to rot in jail for virtually meaningless crimes or debts owed. This is a 3+ hour long production originally telecast in 1996.. Great production scenery and authentic costumes.. Well worth watching as it closely follows the book unlike the 1996 big screen version starring Wright and Morgan Freeman, Hard to find unless you want to buy This is 3+ hours total.
I love Daniel Craig and Alex Kingston's performance in this classic as well. Both UKers so no problem with their accents!!! Odd, but when Alex researched her ancestors she found a London madam as one of her ancestors in the 1800's!
